Genetic Roulette playing at Whistler Public Library on Thursday, May 30th. Don’t miss this film!

Genetic RouletteGenetic Roulette exposes serious threats to your health from genetically modified foods and reveals how corporations like Monsanto hide the evidence. Jackie Deverall from Ahimsa Nutritional Consulting and Holistic Healing will be answering questions after the movie.

Earthsave Whistler and Whistler Public Library have partnered once again to bring Whistler a free movie screening. On Thursday, May 30th they will be showing Genetic Roulette, a film by bestselling author Jeffrey M. Smith. Smith is the author of the world’s bestselling book on GMOs, Seeds of Deception, and a leading consumer advocate promoting healthier non-GMO choices.

Never before seen evidence points to genetically engineered foods as a major contributor to rising disease rates in the US population, especially among children. Gastrointestinal disorders, allergies, inflammatory diseases, and infertility are just some of the problems implicated in humans, pets, livestock, and lab animals that eat genetically modified soybeans and corn.

Monsanto’s strong arm tactics, the FDA’s fraudulent policies, and how the USDA ignores a growing health emergency are also laid bare. This sometimes shocking film may change your diet, protect you and your family, and accelerate the consumer tipping point against genetically modified organisms (GMOs) already underway. Don’t miss this film!

Genetic Roulette has won the 2012 Movie of the Year by the Solari Report and the Top Transformational Film of 2012 by AwareGuide.

The guest speaker at the movie screening is Jackie Deverall from Ahimsa Nutrition & Consulting. Jackie is a Certified Holistic Nutritionist and Whistler local, dedicated to helping people meet their health & wellness goals.

Jackie strongly believes that most illness is a result of nutritional deficiencies, free radical damage and inflammation in the body due to diet and pH imbalance. The Standard North American Diet (SAD) is low in many essential vitamins and minerals, full of processed and refined foods, high in saturated fats, cholesterol, sodium and sugar. On top of that our modern environment is full of many contaminants including pesticides, hormones, antibiotics, carcinogenic chemicals and electrical pollutants. She is on a crusade to educate people about the health dangers of the SAD and processed foods. She is passionate about disease prevention through nutrition and treatment through nutritional and herbal therapies. She believes the human body has an innate powerful healing ability when it is in good nutritional standing. http://www.ahimsanutrition.com

Aspen embraces Meatless Mondays

While the idea of going without meat one day a week might send a shiver down the spine of some, the community of Aspen has wholeheartedly embraced it. Meatless Mondays began last week in Aspen with over 20 restaurants on board, as well as the elementary school, hospital and University of Colorado School of Medicine. And they’re not alone. A February 2011 report found that 18 per cent of American households now participate in Meatless Mondays.

So what inspired them to go meatless?

They’ve read The China Study or seen Forks Over Knives and know how much going meatless can improve their health and help prevent diseases. They also know about the environmental impacts of livestock production, and that eating meatless meals is a far more efficient use of resources, reducing water and land use, pollution, soil degradation, deforestation and greenhouse gases.  Did you know livestock produces more greenhouse gases than the entire transport sector? (United Nations, Livestock’s Long Shadow, 2006)

Whistler, it’s our turn to be inspired. Let’s join Aspen and show our commitment to the environment and the health of our community. It’s an easy step to take but the impact is significant. And it’s a great way to discover new restaurants and new recipes. Ask your favourite restaurant to get on board and support Meatless Mondays!
